Chapter one talks about the products we buy and use. Consumer behavior is important because it helps us understand how people interact with each other and with the marketing system. This chapter emphasizes the idea that consumer behavior is an outgoing process, reason why it is essential for sellers to interact with their costumers and learn more about them, for example their age, gender, income etc.
Regarding the video, I was actually surprised because I’ve taken Facebook quizzes myself, but I was naive about the content and what it actually meant. I feel like nowadays people don’t have much privacy and although it could be a good technique for businesses to implement, it is trespassing individuals’ private life.

Yeah I used to take quizzes like that all the time as a kid and just to think that the machine can take that in and know all of things about me now is crazy to think about.

Chapter 1 talks about all of the different products that we buy and the way we use them. It shows the importance of Consumer Behavior is the aspect of all the data that goes into it and how it can help marketers out when figuring out how to project to a certain group of people.
In regards to the video, It was surprising for the most part that there is actually a computer out there that can handle up to 5000 things on each person in America. The things that they can do with that information is endless and you saw the effect it had on the recent election and even the last presidential election. The method works and more and more companies are going to try and implement it into their system in hopes to maximizing their profits.

After watching the video on Cambridge Analytica and reading Chapter one you see how important understanding consumer behavior is to gain a true following for your brand. Understanding consumer behavior allows you to take advantage of many opportunities in your market.

In the class discussion tomorrow I would bring up how consumer behavior and consumer awareness go hand in hand. Understanding why consumers purchase certain products or services allows marketers to understand what type of products to advertise to different groups of people. This, in turn, allows consumers to know what products are best suited for their wants and needs.

Same. I find it weird now knowing how they figure out this information so that they can find their true consumers. We soon wont even have privacy to do anything because anything we do will eventually be shown to the world or pop up as a ad on facebook.

In chapter one, it mentions that building loyalty to a brand is a smart marketing strategy. Sometimes companies define market segments when they identify their most faithful customers or heavy users. They use the 80/20 rule. The 20 percent of users account for 80 percent of sales.

Building a relationship between the company and consumer definitely benefits both in a positive way.

While reading chapter one I realized that building relationships are always important for any company. For your company to succeed you need to be able to speak to your consumers on more deeper levels. For example, if I am choosing between two different brands of lotion and one of them doesn’t give me enough information or I dont see them branding enough to my skin complexion or group, whether age, social economic, etc. I am going to go to the other lotion that does. Now I am building a loyalty and comfort for this brand of lotion. So me(consumer) and the company will both win. I found the perfect lotion and the company made another loyal consumer and a consumer who’s satisfied brings in more money and more clients. The cycle keeps goings on and on. I also feel that I am an aware consumer. I buy certain stuff that fits my liking as well as doing background information on the items. Also the video we watched took me by surprise. You think your doing a simple quiz, not knowing that its being put into governments data as well as businesses to track what you like and follow. The world gets crazier each day.

you right about that lot of business using people data to a track than to come back and buy more stuff from them. They collect your data from a website you going to shop and use it against you, To my understand and what I learn they also use cookies we have all seen this word in our browser settings, but what does it actually mean? Cookies help companies track visitors, delineate between multiple page views and single visits, personalize landing pages and allow users to stay logged in. This means that you can thank cookies for not having to reset a password on a daily basis

i agree, building relationships are important for companies overall, but in order to have a a successful business the company needs to build that and be able to keep that aspect which is done all with consumer behavior.

In chapter one, one thing I noticed was the intense breakdown of being a consumer and the behavior of every average consumer. The chapter points out important key terms when speaking about consumers, one of which included consumer behavior. The term consumer behavior is overrall the study of the processes inolved when individuals or groups select, purchase or dispose certain products. This was very interesting to me becuase it made me want to look further into some statistics in regards to what human purchase the most in the world, and it would show me a lot in regards to what we find important and what items we purchase a need and not a necessity.

I find it interesting the way everything is connected and how important it is to understand consumer behavior. Learning about this make it possible for sellers to understand the products they need to have in the market, and like you said, it is also very important to understand, as individuals, what items are necessary to purchase and which aren’t.

The main component of marketing is consumer behavior. In order to be able to market to the proper market, researches have to understand everything about the consumers in order to receive the proper out come for their company. There are so many different segments that can separate consumers from each other, the list almost never stops. For something like Cambridge Analytica to be designed and to be able to separate all of there consumers by over 5,000 different characteristics and traits seems impossible but they created software that was able to do so.

After reading chapter 1 “Am I an aware consumer” I found the positivism vs interpretivism interesting. IT is an interesting give and take between how much we should rely on technology in the modern day.

I agree that the IT component of advertising shows just how much we depend on technology.

Chapter one discusses the many aspects of consumer behavior. What interests me is that every action of a consumer can directly link them to the actions of a corporation. For example, having a dicussion with friends about what color of Nikes to buy for a sports gathering or the style can and will deternine a company may release in the future. An intricate part of advertising is paying attention to the consumer, so CEOs are sure to pay attention to the wants and needs or those whor purchase their merchandise.

Consumer behavior is interesting and I am interested to see where this textbook goes and to see if it translates to real life. On the topic of the harkness method, I think its all great and the concept seems awesome however rationally speaking some people will carry the conversation more then others, some will barely participate and when they do it won’t be reasonable or something that the group needs to hear at all. it has positives and negatives.

Consumer behavior is inportant because it creates a relationship between people and marketers. It is the insight used to learn how a person behaves, thinks, and responds to a product. Which then in return be used to target an audience and send a message that appeals to that demographic. It is also important because you can then try to further understand trends and what would most likely have a postive reaction from people.

In chapter 1 the marketing concept states that the objective of the company should be to find and fill consumer needs while making a profit. But to satisfy needs, marketers have to understand what needs exists and that’s why it’s important for marketers to understand consumer behavior because then you’ll know what gravitates your consumer to your business.
