In the textbook the well-being movement has six pillars which are feeling, working, moving, eating, sleeping, and playing well. A persons well-being includes them being healthy and happy with the life they have. Advertisers should focus on marketing their product as an item that can help consumers live a long and happy life. Since most advertising done today is about being the ideal body image, or buying an item to make yourself feel popular, it would be a refreshing change in the marketing world. As for the second question, I do not think someone can buy happiness, but they can buy products that make them feel good and content with their life.

I agree, you can not buy happiness but you see a lot of consumers that will try to buy and end up still unhappy wit life. The sad thing is marketers do to make it better because they still supply the products.

I feel that well being is the state of being healthy and happy. In the book they have an idea of 6 things that determines a persons well-being which are playing, eating, sleeping, moving, working, and feeling. I do not feel that someone’s well being can be up for sale unless you let something take over it. You have the decision on whether or not you will let social media or anything else control your well being and self. Me personally, anything that doesn’t sit right with my well-being or doesn’t boast it is not worth it and if it is destroying it I hope i can stop it in time so that I can make sure my well-being is protected. I feel that marketers uses their consumers well- being to their advantage. They know what they customers want so they will put products out that will help the consumer as well as help them in return.

The book says that there are 6 things that can determine a persons well being which are sleeping, moving, playing, working, eating, and feeling. When people talk about their well being they are basically talking about their health and happiness. If someone is healthy and overall happy with their life, they have a good well being. I do not think health can be bought, you can pay to go to the doctor and try to eat and drink healthy stuff but something can happen out of nowhere that can damage your health. Happiness on the other hand can be bought to a certain extent. You can buy products that help you everyday or simply make you feel better when you have them and this is where businesses and corporations can use your want to be happy and coax you into buying their products. Having those items wont make you completely happy unless you have the right family and friends around you though so in my opinion your well being can not be bought.

The textbook states the “six pillars” in life to remain healthy and happy; feel well, work well, move well, eat well, sleep well, and play well. It also talks about how some things are seen to be purchased to make life happier. Meaning that you can buy your happiness. You aren’t buying the feeling you are buying the different products that will help regulate a happy and healthy life. Recently on social medias and throughout the internet peoples self-esteem has been lowered and also risen. It’s all to be seen as popularity. Doing so by various questions and trying to fit in with others around you, to not feel like an outcast and feel like you belong. Who has the latest phones? Who’s wearing the latest clothing styles? However none of this should determine how healthy and happy your lifestyle is. Yes, it may have a factor in it but it should be about the people and choices you make in life that determine your well-being.

It was interesting to read in the first article about how some researches believe that social media can help the PWB of users because at times they can keep track of existing acquaintances, facilitate new kinds of social interactions, and avoid feelings of loneliness. However, the second article with the study that was preformed in India had different results, concluding that the PWB of college students were affected negatively by internet addiction. I would presume that as long as a person is controlling their time on the internet, they may experience some benefits of the internet.

Based on the information provided the well-being is seen as living a healthy and lovely lifestyle. In the book and stated in the online sources provided, the well-being state of mind can be triggered by an abundance of things. One of these things include the internet and its many websites that help us be social with our friends from around the world. These such things are made from websites and social media platforms we know of today such as Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat and many more. Though our happiness is being triggered, these social media platforms take all our information given on these sites and they are using the information given in order to please themselves and even a bigger audience. Therefore, if using our information they should ask for specific information instead of taking it, and using it without permission.

In the textbook, it statesthe “six pillars” in life, which are playing, eating, sleeping, moving, working, and feeling. It was a lot things from the article “how does internet use affect well-being” that I could agree on. It’s actually true that the internet was initially used for contact with strangers but became a platform for use of different things. But, the internet can be very intimidating because it should always effectively be positive which isn’t always the case because everything that becomes “new” about the internet can also create new risks. The internet can have a positive affect on people but can also have a negative affect on others. Although, Most of time it does have a positive impact on those as far as motivation, expression , connections, and inspirations.

In the text book it’s mentions that the well being falls under the six pillars. The six pillars in life is determined by a persons well being such as: eating, sleeping, working, moving, feeling and playing. I agree that the well being of a person is being happy. Happiness play a big part in a persons life; everybody ignore happiness until they know what it feel like what to be unhappy. But to live a happy life you also have to be healthy. The well being has to be healthy to keep a happy and productive life. I don’t think the well being is for sale. I don’t think no type of price can buy healthiness and happiness.

To me a lot of what “wellness” means is lost in todays society, most people eat poorly and dont exercise enough and then on top of that you add a life they dont want and a job they wish they didn’t have. happiness on a level of having proper relationships and having fun in life is important and crucial to overall wellness but I think that a huge part of it is physical.

Well being is a mental state of peace and happiness. I believe this can not be obtained through any purchase because if someone relies on material items for their well being they will always need more and more to keep them going. For example if someone is using social media to judge their happiness they may never be satisfied because they will rely on other people’s opinions at all times to feel worthy, this may also lead to internet addiction which is unhealthy and distorts reality.

Good insight Christian. But I do think that some people do obtain well-being from material items and ARE indeed always in need of more material items to feed addictions that consumer can correlate with well-being.

I actually did not think about this. Many people do rely on material things to be happy or pretend to be happy, and that is why today’s generation is so messed up.

In the book and even he online sources we can determine that a human’s happiness can be caused by many things. One of the many thing would be dealing with the social media and even the internet as a whole to let us interact with other people. Social media platforms can take what we like, watch, or even just scroll pass and calculate stuff about an individual and send it to somewhere where they can use that information to influence us in different ways. Some people, including me, see an issue with these sites being able to do this but I can’t get mad because I technically agreed to the terms and agreements without even thinking about it. That’s where they companies get you because they know we not going to read it.

This chapter discusses the idea of well being. One of the questions that was raised is “Can one buy happiness?” One cannot physically buy happiness, however consumers try to fill the void with material things that will please them for the time being. I personally think well-being of a consumer solely depends on that person and the things they do in their life. Although one cannot buy their way into living well, consumers can purchase products that will boost their self-esteem, such as, a new pair of shoes. Marketers should embrace the fact that happiness cannot be bought and focus on the fact that people can feel good about the things they buy.

i thought it was interesting in the first article about younger generations and how it has become and avenue for marginalized voices to be heard and interact with people across the globe with similar situations. a long with the textbooks information on the six pillars well being on the internet is a tricky situation because of the freedom it offers it is easy to run into tough situations especially for young kids.

Well-being to me is being physically and mentally well, while at the same time being happy and fulfilled all sections of Maslow’s Hierarchy of needs. I believe well-being can be altered or heightened by a purchase. And hence manipulated by marketers.

Well-being is the state of being happy and comfortable. As stated in the book, well-being consist of six pillars which are feeling, working, eating, sleeping and playing. In my opinion, well-being is not for sale but advertisers do a good job marketing certain products that can make people feel happy. This is where self-concept attachment plays a big role.
